IDA MAE: Making The Blues Cool Again

#idamae #blues #bluesrock #duo #england #nashville

British husband and wife duo Ida Mae have taken the blues world by storm these past few weeks. Coming fresh off a North American tour with Greta Van Fleet, the release of their debut album, as well as their debut Bonnaroo performance, it's looking like 2019 will be quite the year for the blues based duo.

Originally part of an English rock band, Kill it Kid, this pair took a turn to focus on the style of music that have influenced them from the beginning. A change in labels, a move to Nashville and a new sound all proved to be the right decision for the two who have been very busy since the release of their debut album, Chasing Lights last week. They started off by snagging a very important opening slot for Greta Van Fleet on the first leg of their March of the Peaceful Army Tour last month. Greta Van Fleet fans have been known to show continued support for past opening bands, with the success of former tour mates like; Dorothy, Cloves and Goodbye June.

Their new album Chasing Lights, combines powerful blues rock anthems and softer eclectic tunes for a good mix throughout the LP. Ida Mae knows how to make simplicity powerful and that is especially true live. The band's live show has no additional instrumentation other than the two on stage, with Chris and his guitar and Stephanie and her tambourine (or occasionally a shaker device of some sort). Their chemistry radiates throughout the performance and can be felt in and throughout the audience. Chris's raspy vocals, paired with Stephanie's harmonies make for such an interesting sound, an audience has no choice but to pay attention. Their new record is great but their strong suit is live performance. I truly hope for selfish reasons, this band remains on the touring circuit for years to come. They are the perfect festival act, club act, outdoor amphitheatre act... you name it. It doesn't matter where you see them, just see them live.

Coming up, the pair have a sling of record store appearances in their motherland, as well as a few European stops before heading back to the US for some festivals later this year. For more information on Ida Mae click on the following links below:
